Correctional Case Manager - Central Prison

This vacancy is to fill two (2) positions. Applicants applying for position number 65014483 will also be considered for position number 60066537.

Responsibilities

This position reports to a Correctional Programs Supervisor at a multi-custody male correctional facility and provides case management services to an assigned caseload. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Performing classification reviews, needs assessments, plans, program referrals, and scheduled counseling.
  2. Providing transitional information and assisting with housing and classification recommendations.
  3. Assisting with onsite activities within the facility.
  4. Communicating effectively with staff, offenders, and the public.
  5. Working under stressful conditions, including crisis interventions and self-defense.
  6. Preparing reports based on data from interviews, documentation, and observations.

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with State Benefits, working Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with one late night (12pm-9pm). Additional hours may be required.

Effective January 1, 2025, the salary range will be $35,984 - $62,971, following approved increases. Prior applicants remain under consideration.

Note to Current State Employees

The salary grade is NC07. Salary will be recalculated based on education, experience, funding, and internal equity, potentially resulting in a pay increase.

About Central Prison

Established in 1884, it is the main facility for adult male felons sentenced to 20+ years, housing special populations including death row. Offers various offender work and activity programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must document knowledge of case management or supportive counseling techniques in the WORK EXPERIENCE section. Resumes alone are not sufficient.

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or related field, OR High School/GED plus two years custody experience in NC Department of Adult Correction, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
