This position is located at Piedmont Correctional Institution in Salisbury, N.C. (Rowan County), a medium-security male prison with 800 inmates. Employees carry a caseload of inmates, providing supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, addressing inmate questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Employees also assist in major programs for inmate rehabilitation, such as work assignments, work release, education, or recreation, and coordinate transition (re-entry) planning prior to parole or release into the community.
Applicants must have documented knowledge of Supportive Counseling Techniques. Minimum requirements include an associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation, or a related field, or a high school diploma/GED with two years of custody experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
