Under the direction of the Senior Coordinator, Tactical Communications Unit (TCU), the incumbent supports statewide tactical communications planning, operations, and evaluation during routine and emergency conditions. The position manages assigned tactical communications projects, ensures Cal OES communication systems are operational, and performs emergency response activities as directed. The TCU coordinates statewide interoperability efforts, supports emergency communications response and recovery, develops required regulatory and planning guidance, and provides technical assistance to Cal OES branches, regions, and partner agencies.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is an emergency response, homeland security, and disaster recovery agency and as a result, is a dynamic and exciting place to work in a team-oriented environment. The Public Safety Communications (PSC) Technical Services Branch provides a variety of services to PSC and the public safety agencies it serves. The Branch oversees the California Public Safety Microwave Network (CAPSNET), licensing of public safety radio spectrum with the FCC, and a host of ancillary services that support PSC’s service delivery.
In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.
