Under the general supervision of the Telecommunications Systems Operations Supervisor I (TSOS I) and/or technical guidance and support of a Telecommunications Systems Technician III (TST III), the Telecommunications Systems Technician II (TST II) is responsible for responding to and resolving public safety communications problems for State Agency clients. The duties are performed by following Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations, utilizing at a minimum, office-provided training, complex test equipment, computers, hand tools, the Telecommunications Division Manual (TDM), and technical literature. Incumbent communicates effectively on all written and verbal interactions, frequently interfacing with customers and co-workers to resolve issues and collaborate. The TST II maintains a professional and team-centered environment by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Incumbent works proficiently with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Outlook, and Excel. Travels to and works in remote locations, high elevations, and inclement weather conditions may be required.

The TST II will be responsible for programming and updating radio profiles, aligning radios and compliant testing with FCC regulations, inspecting radios installed in CHP/CalFire vehicles and motorcycles to ensure FCC compliance, traveling to various work sites throughout CA, possible standby for after-hours requests.

Working Conditions

In Office

This position supports and manages the day-to-day business operations for Cal OES which is handled in an office location. This is not considered a hybrid telework position.

DMV Pull Program

Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position(s) require(s) a valid California Driver's License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.

The Public Safety Communications (PSC) Technical Services Branch provides a variety of services to PSC and the public safety agencies it serves. The Branch oversees the California Public Safety Microwave Network (CAPSNET), licensing of public safety radio spectrum with the FCC, and a host of ancillary services that support PSC's service delivery.

In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.
