Job summary

The Salvation Army in Melbourne, FL is seeking a dedicated kitchen assistant/cook to plan, prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 3:00pm. You will ensure all meals are safely prepared and presented, maintain kitchen cleanliness, and assist with program-related food arrangements.

Requirements include a High School diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience cooking for large groups; a state driver license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Plans menus and purchases food and supplies for meals.
• Cooks and prepares a variety of foods using kitchen equipment.
• Maintains kitchen and dining area cleanliness and hygiene.
• Assists in coordinating programs and events.

Schedule/Hours: Monday through Friday 10:00am to 3:00pm.This position is responsible for:Plans, prepares, cooks, and serves nutritional meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules; ensures all meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner; cleans kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances; maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner.Key Responsibilities:* Plans menus and purchases food and supplies necessary for the preparation and serving of nutritional meals.* Cleans, cooks, and prepares a variety of foods and beverages utilizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods.* Maintains a high degree of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room; ensures that all meals are prepared in a safe manner; ensures all kitchen duties are performed while practicing proper personal hygiene* Assists in coordinating, cooking, and carrying-out arrangements for programs and special events.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:* Ability to meet attendance requirements.* Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.* Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting.* Work is performed in a normal kitchen environment where there may be limited physical discomforts associated with working around hot stoves/ovens or cold freezers.Employee Benefits:* Paid Time Off* Supplemental Insurance and Optional Retirement PlanEducation and experience:High School diploma or equivalent,andOne year experience cooking food for large groups,orany equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Licenses and Certifications:State Driver License preferred.Equal Opportunity Employer: Veterans I Disabled
