Job summary

The Salvation Army in Alexandria, LA is seeking a dedicated cook to plan, prepare and serve nutritious meals for groups. You will work with standard guidelines, operate kitchen equipment, and ensure meals are safe and appetizing.

Requires at least a high school diploma and two years’ experience cooking for large groups; ServSafe certification within 21 days; ability to read, write, and communicate in English; willingness to obtain necessary licenses.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years’ experience cooking for large groups, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• ServSafe certification within 21 days of hire.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Eligible to obtain state/local certifications as required.

Responsibilities

• Plan menus and purchase food and supplies for nutritional meals.
• Cook, prepare, and serve meals in a safe, presentable manner.
• Clean kitchen facilities, equipment, and utensils.
• Maintain inventory of kitchen supplies.
• Set up dining areas and assist with infants or those needing assistance.
• Assist in food service and maintain hygiene standards.

Job description

This position is responsible for :Plans, prepares, cooks and serves nutritional meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules; ensures all meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner; cleans kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances; maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner.Key Responsibilities:Plans menus and purchases food and supplies necessary for the preparation and serving of nutritional meals.Cleans, cooks, and prepares a variety of foods and beverages utilizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods.Ensures that enough food is prepared based on the number of people to be served and that food is prepared in a timely manner as scheduled.Serves food and beverages in a presentable manner; prepares plates for infants or persons requiring additional assistance.Sets tables with plates, napkins and utensils or sets up buffet line for self-service.Cleans tables, chairs, floors, dishes, utensils, and kitchen appliances.Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:Ability to meet attendance requirements.Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.Ability to cook, taste, and smell food.Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting.Work is performed in a normal kitchen environment where there may be limited physical discomforts associated with working around hot stoves/ovens or cold freezers.Benefits:AflacPTOVoluntary Life InsuranceHigh School diploma or equivalent,andTwo year’s experience cooking food for large groups,orany equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification within 21 days of hireApplicable state, local and/or program contract certifications or licensesEqual Opportunity Employer: Veterans | Disabled
