Aerotek is hiring a senior-level 3rd shift Preventive Maintenance Mechanic in Burlington, NJ to support a large distribution center. You will perform advanced maintenance on automated conveyors and material handling systems, troubleshoot issues, and work largely independently following detailed work instructions.
Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, lubrication, on-site installation and repair, and providing feedback to improve procedures.
This senior-level 3rd shift Preventive Maintenance Mechanic role supports a large, high-volume distribution center by performing advanced mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on automated conveyor and material handling systems. The position focuses on predictive and preventive maintenance to ensure smooth daytime operations, requires strong hands‑on mechanical skills, and involves working largely independently to install, service, and repair complex equipment following detailed work instructions.
Perform predictive and preventive maintenance on automated material handling equipment, including conveyors, pneumatic systems, hydraulic equipment, dock equipment, and electronic/electrical equipment, in accordance with safety and quality procedures.
Carry out mechanical and lubrication tasks on automated material handling equipment, such as belt installation, bolt and tension roll adjustment, straightening parts, aligning rollers, and replacing defective components.
Respond to and resolve service calls, providing mechanical and technical support and troubleshooting for automated material handling system components throughout a 700,000 sq. ft. distribution center.
Independently perform on‑site installation, servicing, and repair of complex equipment and systems by following detailed work instructions and reporting any outdated or incorrect repair measures.
Utilize various tools and instruments to perform repairs and preventive maintenance on conveying systems according to established standards.
Assist in formulating preventive maintenance standards and work procedures, and provide detailed work order feedback on discrepancies noted during service delivery.
Troubleshoot and repair material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, automated conveyor systems, motors, lubrication systems, and key components of the distribution center.
Certified 5S experience is preferred, demonstrating ability to maintain an organized and efficient work area.
Experience with sortation systems is highly desirable, given the extensive sortation equipment on site.
Knowledge of shrink tunnel equipment, including overall operation, repair, and troubleshooting.
PLC knowledge is a plus, though not required, as controls‑related work is primarily handled by a dedicated controls team.
Experience working in large distribution centers or industrial environments with automated material handling systems.
Comfort working from detailed work instructions and providing feedback to improve maintenance procedures.
Strong communication skills to collaborate with operations and maintenance team members and provide clear status updates.
Ability to work with minimal supervision on 3rd shift while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.

This role is based in a large, approximately 700,000 sq. ft. distribution center with automated material handling and conveyor systems. The position is primarily a 3rd shift role (10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.), with an initial training period on 1st shift (7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday).
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burlington, NJ.
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $35.00/hr.
