Job summary

SPX Technologies' Electric Heat division is seeking a Machine Operator to set up and run conventional, special purpose, and NC machines to fabricate metal parts. You will study blueprints, select tools, adjust speeds and feeds, verify tolerances, and collaborate with engineers to resolve machining challenges.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 months related experience, a high school diploma or GED, and may have completed machinist courses.

Qualifications

• One to three months related experience or training.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Fully qualified machinist may have eight terms of machinist courses.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop tools, jigs, and fixtures used in production.
• Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and sequence.
• Measure dimensions and reference points on material for guidance.
• Select, align, and secure fixtures and cutting tools and materials on machines.
• Set controls for speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut, or input CNC data.
• Observe operations for malfunctions and adjust controls as needed.
• Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
• Set up and run a trial to verify accuracy of machine settings.
• Assemble parts into complete units and verify alignment.
• Install replacement parts and test unit functionality.
• Operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
• Develop specifications from general description and sketch the part.
• Confer with engineers to resolve machining problems.
