Job summary

SPX Technologies is seeking a Machinist to set up and operate conventional and NC machines to fabricate metallic parts. The role involves reading blueprints, selecting tools, verifying dimensions, and ensuring precision through setup and trial runs.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and completion of machinist courses. Preferred candidates have related coursework and hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. We offer competitive benefits and career development.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of at least eight terms of machinist courses at an accredited technical school.

Responsibilities

  • Design and/or develop tolls, jigs, and fixtures used in production.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  • Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Fit and assemble parts into complete assembly.
  • Verify dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Install machined replacement parts and test operation to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
  • Develop specifications from general description and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
  • Confer with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
