Job summary

Ocado Group, a UK-based online grocery retailer, seeks a Controls Engineer to own data-driven control systems across live plants. You will apply deep PLC expertise, diagnose faults, lead safety and compliance, and mentor maintenance engineers while supporting night/weekend operations.

You will analyze performance using Grafana/Looker and drive data-driven improvements, with an emphasis on reliability, throughput, and safety, in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.

Qualifications

• Associate's (bachelor's preferred) degree in Electrical Engineering (or related).
• 5+ years in automation/controls; 3+ years in a warehouse/industrial environment.
• Hands-on with PLC systems (Siemens TIA Portal preferred).
• Experience with SCADA and HMI platforms.
• Available for night and weekend work on an as-needed basis, in person or on call.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing PCBs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide front-line and escalation support for live production control systems (PLC, SCADA, HMI, Safety PLCs).
• Diagnose and resolve complex hardware and software faults using SCADA/HMI diagnostics, PLC monitoring/modification, and industrial networks.
• Implement temporary workarounds or controlled PLC changes to safely maintain operations.
• Ensure changes follow change control, backup, and documentation standards.
• Troubleshoot and modify Safety PLC systems, including interlocks and safety devices.
• Promote a safety-first culture and incident prevention.
