Job summary

Addison Group is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, implement, and support PLC-based control systems for our manufacturing operations. You will work closely with Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to ensure equipment runs safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Responsibilities include developing PLC logic, HMI screens, interpreting electrical drawings, and supporting startups and upgrades.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Industrial automation experience in manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and control drawings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Experience with multiple PLC platforms and automation architectures.
  • Exposure to robotics, motion control, and vision systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety standards and automation best practices.
  • Experience supporting high-uptime or continuous-production environments.
  • Detail-oriented programming, documentation, and change control.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and automation issues in production.
  • Develop and modify PLC logic, HMI screens, and related control software.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and P&IDs.
  • Support equipment commissioning, startups, system upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to diagnose system-level issues.
  • Ensure control systems comply with safety standards, electrical codes, and internal practices.
  • Document programming changes, I/O modifications, system updates, and equipment revisions.
  • Evaluate and support new automation technologies, including robotics, motion control, and vision systems.

Job description

The Controls Engineer designs, develops, implements, and supports industrial automation and control systems for manufacturing operations. This position collaborates with Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to ensure equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, program, and maintain PLC-based control systems for automated equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical, controls, and automation issues in a production environment.
  • Develop and modify PLC logic, HMI screens, and related control-system software.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and P&IDs.
  • Support equipment commissioning, startups, system upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Partner with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to diagnose system-level issues and implement reliable solutions.
  • Ensure control systems comply with applicable safety standards, electrical codes, and internal engineering practices.
  • Document programming changes, I/O modifications, system updates, and equipment revisions.
  • Evaluate and support new automation technologies, including robotics, motion control, and vision systems.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline preferred.
  • Industrial automation and controls experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
