Job summary

Virginia Department of General Services (DGS) in Richmond, VA is hiring a Controller to lead agency-wide financial activities, including reporting, accounting, fixed assets, capital projects, and grants. The role supports CFO and collaborates with division directors and external stakeholders.

The Controller oversees monthly/annual close, internal controls, and preparation of financial statements, with a hybrid telework option (up to 2 days/week) after a Telework Agreement.

Qualifications

• Extensive and progressive financial management experience.
• Knowledge of GAAP and GASB requirements.
• Experience with accrual and cash basis accounting.
• Experience preparing financial statements and year-end closing.
• Ability to lead teams and communicate complex financial data.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting and financial reporting operations and internal controls.
• Oversee grant reporting, fund draw down, and financial oversight.
• Manage monthly and annual closing schedules and report packages.
• Prepare year-end financial statements and schedules with deadlines.
• Ensure timely financial reports and audits with analyses for management.
• Support CFO and managers with internal financial reporting.
