Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers, Department of Accounts, Richmond, VA, seeks a seasoned Director of General Accounting to lead the General Accounting Unit, oversee the General Ledger of Cardinal, and ensure data integrity and timely distributions.

This senior state role requires GAAP expertise, strong policy development, and proven leadership of a accounting team in a complex environment. Hybrid work with at least three days in the downtown Richmond office is required.

Qualifications

• Progressive professional experience in Accounting.
• Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and accounting regulations.
• Experience developing policies with strong internal controls.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; analyze complex financial data.
• Experience managing a complex financial or accounting operation.
• Proven ability to lead a team of accounting professionals.
• Experience evaluating business process improvements and risk management.
• Experience communicating reporting metrics to senior management.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, manage, and direct the General Accounting Unit and General Ledger across Cardinal.
• Propose policies to ensure compliance with Federal and State laws and maintain data integrity.
• Ensure accurate and timely distributions and serve as Data Custodian for Cardinal data.
