Job summary

The Department of General Services (DGS) in Virginia is seeking a Controller to lead the Office of Fiscal Services, directing financial reporting, general accounting, asset and grant accounting, and compliance with state regulations. The role partners with the CFO and program managers to provide critical financial insights.

Located in Richmond with a potential hybrid telework option, this position requires extensive government finance experience and CPA credentials.

Qualifications

• Finance, business, and accounting experience including fund, fixed asset, and lease accounting.
• Extensive, progressive financial management experience incl. planning and auditing operations.
• Knowledge of GAAP and GASB, and federal/state laws and public finance trends.
• Experience with accrual and cash basis accounting.
• Experience with complex financial structures, revenue, and cash resources.
• Experience with monthly and year-end closing.
• Ability to lead teams and develop policies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting and financial reporting operations with proper internal controls.
• Oversee grant reporting including fund drawdown and federal/state reporting.
• Set schedule for monthly and annual closing of the DGS financial system.
• Prepare year-end statements and schedules with coordination.
• Ensure timely financial reports and audits with analyses.
• Review and approve monthly, quarterly, yearly reports.
• Assist in updates to internal accounting processes to comply with regulations.
• Assist CFO and managers with internal financial reporting.
