Job summary

Homeland Talent Solutions partnered with a community-focused Critical Access Hospital in Southwest Washington to hire a Controller to lead its accounting function and work closely with the CFO. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Controller or senior accounting leader to take on broader ownership, visibility, and leadership.

The Controller will oversee core accounting operations, manage a three-person team, and serve as a key financial partner to hospital leadership.

Qualifications

• Progressive accounting experience with responsibility for financial reporting, GL, month-end close.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge with sound judgment and attention to detail.
• Proven experience leading accounting professionals or teams.
• Ability to work onsite and manage a team in a hospital setting.
• CPA or other advanced credential preferred.
• Healthcare accounting experience is a plus.
• Sage Intacct or Epic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own the accuracy and integrity of financial statements, GL, month-end close, and reconciliations.
• Oversee financial reporting, budget-to-actual analysis, controls, and recurring reports.
• Lead and develop a three-person accounting team (Senior Accountant, AP Specialist, Payroll Specialist).
• Prepare reports and materials for executive leadership and Board presentations.
• Partner with department leaders to address financial questions and variances.
• Collaborate with the CFO on close processes and broader finance initiatives.
• Support hospital-specific accounting needs, including Medicare cost reports.

Homeland Talent Solutions is partnering with a community-focused Critical Access Hospital in Southwest Washington to hire a Controller to lead its accounting function and work closely with the CFO. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Controller or a high-performing Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, Accounting Director, Finance Manager, or similar accounting leader ready to take on broader ownership, visibility, and leadership.

The Controller will oversee the hospital’s core accounting operations, lead an experienced three-person accounting team, and serve as a key financial partner to the CFO and hospital leadership. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the organization’s financial operations while supporting the hospital’s mission and long-term success.

Responsibilities

• Own the accuracy and integrity of the hospital’s financial statements, general ledger, month-end close process, and balance-sheet reconciliations
• Oversee financial reporting, budget-to-actual analysis, accounting controls, and recurring reporting requirements
• Serve as the primary accounting contact for annual financial, compliance, and accountability audits
• Lead, develop, and support an experienced accounting team consisting of a Senior Accountant, AP Specialist, and Payroll Specialist
• Prepare financial reports, analysis, and supporting materials for executive leadership and Board presentations
• Partner with department leaders to address financial questions, investigate variances and issues, and provide timely follow-up and resolution
• Collaborate closely with the CFO on accounting operations and broader finance initiatives, with responsibilities tailored to the candidate’s experience and capabilities
• Support hospital-specific accounting and financial requirements, including Critical Access Hospital and Medicare-related processes, as applicable

Requirements

• Progressive accounting experience with demonstrated responsibility for financial reporting, general ledger accounting, month-end close, and balance-sheet reconciliations, preferred
• Strong technical accounting knowledge with sound judgment and attention to detail, preferred
• Proven experience leading, mentoring, or providing direction to accounting professionals, preferred
• Ability to work effectively in the details while also delegating responsibilities and providing strong team leadership, preferred
• High standards for accuracy, accountability, integrity, and quality of work, preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an approachable, collaborative leadership style, preferred
• Ability and willingness to work onsite in South Bend, Washington, preferred
• CPA or other advanced accounting credential, preferred
• Hospital or healthcare accounting experience, preferred
• Critical Access Hospital/Medicare cost-report experience, preferred
• Sage Intacct or Epic experience, preferred

This role offers a competitive base salary of $110,000–$144,000, along with a sign-on bonus and comprehensive benefits package. Relocation assistance is also available for the right candidate.
