Overview
Controller drives financial strategy, reporting accuracy, and operational excellence across the hospital and its subsidiaries.
As Controller, you will oversee financial accounting systems and lead a team of key finance managers. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance with a dotted line to the CFO, you will provide strategic financial insight to operational leaders and ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB, GASB, and all regulatory standards.
Who We’re Looking For:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – Required unless you have 5+ years as a hospital controller
- Healthcare accounting experience – 6+ years
- Leadership experience – Supervision of finance teams required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain an ongoing consolidated accounting system to meet needs and provide complete and accurate records
- Provide analysis of the organization’s income, expenditures, and capital asset values with comparisons to previous periods
- Effectively communicate the financial condition of the organization to the VP of Finance and other members of leadership
- Serve as a consultant regarding the organization’s financial affairs, development of operating policies and procedures, departments’ needs and problems
- Ensure that the organization is compliant with debt covenants
- Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of the monthly financial and operational reports
- Review and provide logical explanations for monthly, quarterly, and annual variances in general ledger and statistical accounts
- Prepare quarterly consolidated financial statements and appropriate ratios
- Prepare annual consolidating financial statements and footnotes for auditors
- Provide analysis and support for all external auditors and coordinate audit
- Prepare and affect timely filing of federal, state, hospital association, third party, and other financial reports as required
- Administer and monitor an effective system of internal controls
- Maintain compliance with all laws and applicable regulatory requirements; act promptly to comply with required changes
- Review, monitor, and evaluate third party reimbursement; based on expected reimbursement, analyze and adjust the allowance accounts
- Present constructive feedback regarding system or process failures and participate in resolution with work partners in a proactive and positive manner
- Select, train/orient and assign department staff (directly or through subordinate supervisor). Develop standards of performance, evaluate performance, and initiate or make recommendations for personnel actions
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops
