Job summary

Rauch & Associates is seeking a seasoned Controls Engineer in the Detroit area to design, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC-based automation systems. You will lead projects, mentor teammates, and coordinate maintenance while ensuring safety and reliability.

Required are a bachelor’s degree in engineering with 7+ years of manufacturing automation experience, strong Siemens PLC and TIA Portal expertise, and knowledge of Profibus/Profisafe/ASI-Bus. Relocation and visa sponsorship are available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical field.
• 7+ years automation experience, preferably in manufacturing.
• Strong experience with Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal.
• Knowledge of Profibus, Profisafe, Safety Integrated, ASI-Bus.
• Ability to read electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics.
• Familiar with risk assessments and safety evaluations.

Responsibilities

• Design and modify electrical, robotic, and PLC automation equipment to improve uptime.
• Troubleshoot controls and drive equipment improvements.
• Manage projects, suppliers, and assets within budget and schedule.
• Coordinate major maintenance, repairs, and corrective actions.
• Support continuous improvement and capital projects.
• Lead and mentor others through troubleshooting and automation development.

• Designing and implementing modifications to existing electrical, robotic, and PLC automation equipment to improve uptime and reliability
• Troubleshooting controls and automation systems and driving equipment improvements
• Managing projects, suppliers, and new process equipment while keeping projects on schedule and within budget
• Coordinating major maintenance, emergency repairs, and corrective actions
• Supporting continuous improvement and capital projects
• Leading and mentoring others through troubleshooting, equipment design, and automation development

What you need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical field
• 7+ years of automation experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• Strong experience with Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal
• Knowledge of Profibus, Profisafe, Safety Integrated, and ASI-Bus
• Ability to create and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics
• Familiarity with risk assessments and safety evaluations

Bonus points if you have:

• Master’s degree in Engineering or MBA
• Experience with FANUC Robots, FANUC Vision, Cognex Vision, and Atlas Copco tools
• Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and safety codes
• AutoCAD experience
