Engtal is seeking an Automation Controls Engineer to lead electrical hardware design and software engineering for automation projects. You will collaborate with the Program Manager to translate concepts into finalized designs, supervise debugging, and develop manuals and training for customers.

Responsibilities include system risk assessments, hardware selection, PLC/HMI development, robot programming, and onsite commissioning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of electrical hardware design experience.
  • Experience with EPLAN P8 or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Proficiency in PLCs and HMI development (Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell, or Mitsubishi).
  • Robot programming experience with FANUC, ABB, or KUKA.

  • Participate in system risk and safety assessments.
  • Select and size hardware components and generate electrical schematics.
  • Author bills of materials and design panel layouts with heat calculations.
  • Size and plumb pneumatic systems and develop system hardware architecture.
  • Write PLC logic and PLC function blocks; develop HMI.
  • Commission robots, program paths, and onsite startup at customer sites.
  • Travel approximately 25% for business; interface with machine tools and integrate auxiliary equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and safety standards.

Job description

Our client is a global automation and system integration company delivering custom automation solutions for customer orders across multiple industries. They are seeking an experienced Automation Controls Engineer to join their team.

This position is responsible for the electrical hardware design and software engineering for automation projects on customer orders. The Automation Controls Engineer will work closely with the Program Manager to develop automation concepts into a finalized design, lead the debugging and startup during system commissioning, and collaborate with other team members to develop system manuals and provide end customers with technical documentation and training.

What You'll Do
  • Participate in system risk and safety assessments
  • Select and size hardware components
  • Generate electrical schematics
  • Author bills of materials
  • Design panel layouts and perform heat calculation analysis
  • Size and plumb pneumatic systems
  • Develop system hardware architecture
  • Write programmable logic controller (PLC) logic and function blocks
  • Develop human machine interfaces (HMI)
  • Commission robots, program paths, and touch up points
  • Travel onsite for customer startup and commissioning
  • Integrate auxiliary equipment, including laser markers, parts washers, and comparators
  • Interface with machine tools for machine tending applications
  • Ensure systems comply with applicable OSHA and safety standards
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience preferred, not required
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical hardware design
  • Electrical design experience with EPLAN P8 or AutoCAD Electrical
  • Programming experience with Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Allen Bradley, or Mitsubishi
  • Experience with FANUC, ABB, or KUKA robot programming
  • Safety setup experience with FANUC DCS, ABB SafeMove, or KUKA Safe
  • Robot simulation experience with FANUC RoboGuide, ABB RobotStudio, or KUKA Sim
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% for business
  • Pay: $100,000-$120,000
  • Overtime: Paid at 1.5x after 40 hours/week
