Job summary

The U.S. Department of Defense seeks a Health Benefits Specialist for the Goodfellow Medical Group at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas.

The role focuses on educating beneficiaries about TRICARE procedures and benefits, advising service members on benefit types, and troubleshooting system issues related to claims and program enrollment. The incumbent will analyze referral program data, manage TRICARE databases, and act as the primary liaison for health benefit programs for active duty members,

Qualifications

• Applicant may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination based on a background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• Selectees must agree to seasonal influenza vaccination or provide an exemption.
• Hepatitis B immunization is required for positions with direct patient contact; proof of other immunizations may be required depending on position.
• Tuberculosis Testing is required.
• Must obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through ARC/ACLS; higher certifications do not supersede BLS.

Duties

• Provide education to a wide variety of beneficiaries on established TRICARE procedures and benefits.
• Advise service members on types of benefits and their advantages and disadvantages.
• Troubleshoot problems beneficiaries have in processing claims, enrolling in programs, receiving authorization for services or other system problems.
• Analyze statistics from various internal sources on availability and effectiveness of the referral management programs.
• Manage multiple databases unique to TRICARE and the referral program.
• Serve as the primary liaison for all health benefit programs available to active duty and retired service members and their families.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Tuberculosis Testing is required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
