Job summary

Turner Construction Company in Omaha is seeking a Safety Specialist to educate project teams on EH&S programs and enforce safety practices on site. The role builds relationships with subcontractors, contributes to the project safety program, and conducts audits and training to maintain regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include pre-construction planning, risk analyses, and worker orientation, with emphasis on incident reduction and program improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years of construction safety experience.
• CHST certification required or within two years of appointment.
• OSHA 30-hour training completed; First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED valid.

Responsibilities

• Educate construction project teams on EH&S programs and provide training on safe work practices.
• Promote safe work practices and safe working conditions per regulations and owner requirements.
• Build relationships with project team and subcontractor safety representatives.
• Contribute to development of overall project safety program.
• Enforce safety program, policies, and procedures and implement immediate corrective actions.
• Ensure proper pre-planning for subcontractors and trades.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with regulations and owner requirements.
• Hold pre-construction meetings to review site safety program and job hazard analyses.
• Coordinate Preconstruction meetings and conduct worker orientation; record participation.
• Create safety reports, analyze metrics, and recommend improvements.
• Conduct safety meetings and issue meeting minutes.
• Maintain log of subcontractors’ toolbox talks and provide safety reports.
• Conduct safety audits and recommend corrective action.
• Evaluate training needs and make recommendations to subcontractors.
• Actively participate in reducing incident rates and manage regulatory exposures.
• Administer drug screening program.
