Job summary

Southland Industries seeks a safety professional to plan, coordinate, and implement our safety, health and environment programs across projects, ensuring compliance with corporate standards and regulations. You will promote an incident-free workplace and lead training, inspections, THA/JHA development, and regulatory oversight.

The role requires a 4-year degree in safety, OSHA certifications, and at least 2 years in construction or industrial safety management.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree in occupational safety/health or equivalent combination of technical training and construction-related safety experience.
• OSHA 510 or 511, First Aid/CPR certifications required.
• At least 2 years’ experience in construction safety management and/or industrial safety management.
• Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all applicable federal, state, local and company regulations.
• Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
• Experience documenting accident and incident investigations.
• Solid MS Office skills; able to work effectively with others.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to work extended and irregular hours.
• Employment contingent on satisfying jobsite access requirements and not being restricted by Southland’s partnering contractors.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate a safe and healthy culture and support a behavior-driven safety program.
• Monitor, educate and correct workforce on health and safety issues.
• Conduct worker training on safety laws, regulations, hazards and PPE.
• Coordinate housekeeping inspections and safety audits with emphasis on hazard recognition and OSHA compliance.
• Document inspection results and communicate findings to site supervision; pursue corrective actions.
• Develop and review task and job hazard analyses; provide necessary training.
• Provide on-site safety, health and environmental support.
• Oversee OSHA, EPA and DOT regulatory compliance for operations.
• Investigate accidents, near-misses and property damage; prepare reports.
• Attend accident review meetings and conduct new-hire safety training.
• Issue permits (e.g., confined space) as required and accompany inspectors on site tours.
• Build positive relationships with field supervision through regular meetings on safety progress.
• Provide surveillance as directed and maintain essential safety paperwork.
