Job summary

Turner Construction Co. is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety professional to provide training on safe work practices, enforce EH&S programs, and help manage project safety on a Reston, VA site.

Expect collaboration with Turner Trade employees and subcontractors to uphold safety standards. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, CHST certification (or within two years), OSHA 30-hour training, and ongoing First Aid/CPR/BBP/AED certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field and minimum of 2 years of related construction safety experience
• CHST certification required or within two years of appointment
• Completed OSHA 30-hour training and maintain First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications
• Familiar with safety/environmental principles and regulations
• Familiar with Federal, State, and local Environmental Health & Safety regulations
• Familiar with general construction operations

Responsibilities

• Educate project team on EH&S programs, policies, and procedures and provide training on safe work practices to ensure adherence
• Promote safe work practices and working conditions in line with EH&S policies and regulations
• Build relationships with project team and subcontractor Safety reps
• Contribute to development of overall project safety program
• Enforce safety program and implement corrective actions per regulations and owner requirements
• Pre-plan activities for subcontractors and trades
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance
• Hold pre-construction safety meetings with subcontractors and review risk mitigation plans
• Collect PTPS and JHAs for subcontractors per requirements
• Coordinate Preconstruction meetings and ensure proper training per OSHA standards
• Create safety reports and analyze metrics to suggest improvements
• Conduct safety meetings and document minutes
• Maintain log of subcontractors' toolbox talks and provide reports
• Conduct safety audits and issue corrective actions
• Evaluate training needs and advise subcontractors
• Aim to reduce Project Incident Rates and manage regulatory exposures
• Administer drug screening program per requirements
• Other duties as assigned
