Job summary

Abbott Construction in Washington state is seeking a Project Engineer/Manager to support commercial construction projects. You will assist in estimates, planning, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and subcontract negotiations to ensure timely, cost-effective project completion.

You will coordinate plan reviews, permits, and closeout activities, while mentoring engineers and ensuring compliance with codes, safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of two or more years of commercial construction experience.
• Excellent communication skills with strong negotiation abilities.
• Understands construction laws, building codes, and blueprint reading.
• Maintains Abbott Construction ethics and policies.
• Problem solving; relate data to form alternatives.
• Professional affiliations (e.g., AGC) and credentials (e.g., PE) preferred.
• Ability to speak basic Spanish regarding construction commands is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of estimates, project budgets and unit cost reports.
• Organize and conduct pre-construction planning meetings.
• Participate in the successful negotiation of project subcontracts.
• Assist the project team in preparing the project management plan and execution of the construction contract.
• Participate in value engineering services as appropriate.
• Obtain and review plans and specs for completeness and consistency.
• Assist owner in obtaining permits and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare project schedule and milestones with the Project Superintendent.
• Participate in project schedule updates as needed.
• Develop monthly client pay requests and follow up on billings to ensure timely collection.
• Control payment of project costs and coordinate with the cost accountant for payments and lien releases.
• Participate in monthly job cost reviews to improve profitability.
• Manage project material and equipment procurement within budget and schedule.
• Develop and monitor quality, safety, and risk management plans.
• Negotiate change orders and manage associated impacts.
• Attend and document meetings with Owner/Architect and subcontractors.
• Coordinate closeout procedures (as-builts, permits, manuals, warranties).
• Participate in post-completion review and provide data for databases.
• Train and mentor project and field engineers and team members.
• Oversee submittals, RFIs, and documentation to avoid delays.
• Update software for collaboration and document management.
• Develop and maintain owner relationships.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
