Job summary

Santa Fe Mechanical, a commercial general contractor in Colorado, seeks an experienced Controller to own the financial function. You will bridge the bookkeeper and project managers, install rhythm and reporting, and support enterprise-scale finance operations.

Responsibilities include monthly close by the 15th, bank/account reconciliations, and WIP management, with a path toward fuller Controller or fractional-CFO scope. Hybrid schedule with on-site month-end close.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years as controller, assistant controller, or senior staff accountant in commercial construction.
• Deep understanding of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and WIP schedules.
• Fluency in job costing with ability to build reports from scratch.
• Advanced expertise in QuickBooks Online (COA, custom reports).
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Self-directed with ability to set rhythm without daily management.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close process, aiming to close books by the 15th of the following month.
• Review and approve reconciliations for bank, credit card, AP, AR, and intercompany accounts.
• Produce monthly financial statements and reconcile BuildOps job cost data to QuickBooks Online.
• Own the monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedule and lead the WIP review.
• Apply percentage-of-completion to track billings, retainage, and margins.
• Maintain rolling cash forecast and lead weekly cash meetings.
• Build annual budgets and weekly metric dashboards for ownership.
