Job summary

CDM Smith in Phoenix, AZ is seeking an estimator to support construction cost management across varying projects. The role emphasizes quantity take-offs, cost research, and diligent coordination with project managers and subcontractors to ensure accurate pricing and timely bid responses.

You will use Timberline for OPCC preparation, maintain as‑built drawings, manage RFIs, and assist in change management while collaborating with design engineers and field teams to drive project success.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic to moderately complex estimating tasks including quantity take-offs, creating material price lists, and researching labor, material and equipment costs.
• Utilizes Timberline to prepare or assist in preparation of Opinions of Probable Cost of Construction (OPCC) and design-build projects.
• Researches historical data and compiles summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.
• Receives, reviews and files pricings from project managers or procurement against OPCCs performed by estimators.
• Contacts subcontractors and suppliers for current pricing and bidder interest.
• Participates in pre-bid job walks and bid-day quote tabulations.
• Supervises and directs project activities and provides technical, field and site administration support.
• Prepares and reviews submittals of moderate to high complexity and interprets specifications/drawings for field teams.
• Maintains and edits all field as-built drawings and handles RFI responses and change management.
• Coordinates arrival of parts, equipment, and materials with field personnel and vendors.
• Develops or assists in development of purchase orders, subcontracts, change orders, and applications for payment.
• Develops detailed baseline schedules with WBS, logic ties, durations, and manages critical path with project controls.
• Collaborates on Time Impact Analysis (TIA) schedules for change management and reports on subcontract changes.
• Generates reports for subcontractor changes, bid comparisons, and new work item estimates; supports subconsultant/Subcontractor submittals.
• Provides guidance and training to junior staff and reviews their work; helps develop QA/QC documentation and plans.
• Assists in modeling efforts with BIM/VDC and supports project capability needs and planning.
• Monitors budget, analyzes costs by task code, and contributes to period‑sensitive project reporting.
