Job description

The Office of U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is seeking a personable, dependable, and professional Constituent Liaison to join her Constituent Affairs team in New York, NY. The Constituent Liaison will be instrumental in addressing a high volume of casework across multiple issues, including immigration and government services and benefits, depending on the needs of the office. The Constituent Liaison will be key in ensuring responsiveness and problem solving for constituents who contact the Senator's office to seek help with related issues.

The ideal candidate for this role has some federal casework experience, preferably with immigration issues, or experience processing immigration applications and petitions as a paralegal. To qualify, applicants must possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, outstanding oral and written communication skills, and a desire to work in a team-based, collaborative environment. Qualified applicants must be self-motivated team players who are able to exercise discretion and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Liaison Role: Serve as a key liaison between the Senator's office and constituents seeking assistance with matters pending before the federal government agencies. Ensure responsiveness and problem solving for constituents who contact the Senator's office to seek help with related issues.
  • Reporting: Maintain up-to-date case file records in online case management system, track and analyze casework trends, and update department training materials as needed.
  • Intern Development: Lead onboarding and contribute to training, management, and professional development of interns.
  • Community Outreach: Address constituent concerns, facilitate meetings, and serve as a trusted resource for individuals and groups seeking support or information.
  • Internal Collaboration: Work closely officewide with the Senator's staff on casework-related developments, constituent concerns, and potential policy actions. Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate and execute strategies that align with the Senator's legislative and constituent goals.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred candidates have minimum one-year direct service experience, with preference given to former federal immigration casework or immigration paralegal experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior staff, government officials, community and nonprofit leaders, and constituents. Ability to synthesize complex information and present in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take initiative and work independently on a highly collaborative team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism.
  • Experience managing casework using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
  • Foreign language skills and current residency in New York preferred.

The salary for this position is $55,000 annually.
