Job summary

IAT Insurance Group seeks a Claims Counsel in its Management Liability Claims Unit. This hybrid role handles EPL, D&O, Fiduciary and Crime claims across private and nonprofit clients, requiring 3–7 years of liability claims experience. Location flexible within IAT offices or remote for ideal candidate.

Responsibilities include managing defense, analyzing coverage, budgeting with defense counsel, negotiating, and reporting loss exposure. Travel roughly one day per month and maintaining licenses.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate required.
• Licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
• 3–7 years management liability claim experience including EPL, D&O and Fiduciary liability.
• Excellent coverage analysis skills with experience drafting coverage position letters.
• Experience handling litigated files and directing defense counsel.
• Excellent negotiation skills.
• Willing to travel, about 1 day per month.
• Licensure as required by state(s).
• CPCU or related studies beneficial.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Strong organization, multi-tasking and prioritization.
• Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Handle Management Liability Claims (EPL, D&O, Fiduciary, Crime) for private and nonprofit clients.
• Analyze, investigate, negotiate and resolve all levels of claims within authority.
• Direct defense counsel and approve budgets.
• Develop litigation strategy and attend mediations and trials.
• Verify coverage and policy terms on reported claims.
• Follow policies, regulatory and customer service standards.
• Prepare reports including Large Loss Reports reflecting exposure.
• Maintain 24-hour contact with stakeholders throughout the claim.
• Identify recovery/contribution/SIU opportunities.
• Set timely loss/expense reserves per guidelines.
• Draft coverage letters to stakeholders.
• Support partners on claim/underwriting issues and meetings.
• Maintain adjuster licenses as required.
• Perform other duties as needed.
