Dallas Independent School District seeks a SPED Intensive Support Teacher Assistant for Pershing Elementary (EC-5). The role involves supporting teachers, preparing instructional materials, assisting with students with physical disabilities, and maintaining records.

You will help with classroom management and adapt supports to each student’s needs in a campus setting. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus one of the listed higher education options, or a paraprofessional

Qualifications

• Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent, plus one of: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, or pass an academic assessment.
• Paraprofessional certificate required from State Board of Certification.
• Completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants or six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of child growth/development and behavior, ability to work with diverse groups, and strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Responsabilités

• Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and prepare room according to student needs.
• Assist with inventory and care of equipment.
• Maintain administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities, including transfers to/from wheelchairs and positioning.
• Assist with personal care needs as required.
• Support classroom curriculum and instructional exercises.
• Manage behavior and intervene in crises when needed.
• Learn and adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
• Work with individuals or small groups to develop motor skills.
• Supervise students throughout the day in all areas of the school.
• Keep teacher informed of student needs and problems.
• Maintain confidentiality and participate in staff development and meetings.
