Job summary

City Rescue Mission, Inc. in Oklahoma City, OK seeks a Shelter Advocate to support housing-focused shelter operations and engage clients with empathy and respect.

You will complete intake paperwork, enter data into the agency database, monitor dorms, and coordinate with Case Management and other teams to meet client needs in a trauma-informed, nonjudgmental way. The role requires compassion, ability to handle crisis, and maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for men, women, and children

Qualifications

• Experience working with people experiencing homelessness or related challenges.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective time management and adaptability in a crisis environment.
• Ability to apply trauma-informed care in daily interactions.
• Comfort working with diverse populations including families and individuals.
• Proficiency with data entry and using a client database.

Responsibilities

• Welcome new clients and meet their immediate needs upon entry.
• Assess eligibility for services per guidelines.
• Provide trauma-informed, compassionate care to clients.
• Search client belongings per protocol and handle incidents.
• Explain services, guidelines, bed availability and expectations.
• Complete intake for new clients.
• Monitor dorms to ensure a safe, clean environment.
• Supervise laundry, meals and daily activities.
• Maintain a tidy reception area.
• Document client information in the agency database.
• Coordinate with Case Management and other teams.
• Report safety concerns to a supervisor.
• Work with partners to meet client needs.
