Job summary

Carteret House in Newport, NC seeks a compassionate Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to support residents with daily living activities, promote dignity and independence, and maintain a safe, comforting environment across shifts.

You will assist with bathing, dressing, mobility, meals, and hydration; monitor health status, report changes to the nursing team, encourage social engagement, and ensure infection control and safety procedures are followed.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED preferred; PCA/CNA training preferred; state-approved caregiver training preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year in personal care, senior living, or healthcare preferred.
• Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; compassionate, patient, attentive to residents' needs; ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Personal Care Support: assist residents with ADLs (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility), meal prep, feeding, and hydration.
• Health Monitoring: observe changes, report to nursing staff, assist with medication reminders.
• Resident Engagement: build relationships, encourage participation in activities and social events.
• Safety & Compliance: maintain clean, safe living areas; follow infection control protocols and safety procedures; respond to emergencies.
