Job summary

Rhode Island Hospital in Providence is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to obtain blood and other specimens under supervision. You will transport specimens, perform basic clerical tasks, and enter data into the department system while maintaining records.

The role requires phlebotomy training and the ability to interact with patients, with attention to safety and universal precautions. Work hours include early morning shifts with some weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy certificate through an accrediting agency and/or completion of a phlebotomy program with internship (100 successful venipunctures).
• In lieu of internship, 6 months phlebotomy experience may be considered.
• In lieu of certification, 5+ years direct phlebotomy experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Schedule venipunctures or capillary punctures according to priority and test type.
• Use computer-generated labels and follow procedures to ensure proper collection and handling of specimens.
• Verify patient identity and pre-collection prep.
• Collect blood samples by venipuncture or capillary puncture; handle other specimens as needed.
• Perform coagulation tests and prepare samples for transport with proper labeling and documentation.
• Maintain records of specimen procurement and complete registration information.
