Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Transportation Caregiver to support patient mobility across the hospital. The role involves escorting ambulatory patients, transporting them by wheelchair, stretcher or bed, and verifying patient identities with two identifiers before transport.

Your responsibilities include ensuring patient comfort, communicating during handoffs, and assisting nursing staff with transfers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Good interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation.
• Preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 6 months of hire.
• Six months' experience in a hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Escort ambulatory patients and transport them by wheelchair, stretcher or bed.
• Verify patient identification using two identifiers and document on Safe Patient Transport Forms.
• Ensure patient comfort and safety during transport; monitor needs before, during and after transport.
• Provide handoff communication when patients are delivered to the receiving unit.
• Assist nursing staff and lift tech with patient positioning and transfers; follow infection control protocols.
