Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Per Diem Patient & Equipment Transporter to support patient movement throughout the hospital on an on-site basis in Southbridge, MA. The role involves transporting patients by wheelchair, stretcher or bed, assisting nursing staff, delivering beds and transport equipment, and maintaining logs and dispatch communications.

This position is non-exempt with a schedule that varies, including on-call coverage and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Good inter-personal skills and a customer service orientation to maintain a collaborative, patient focused effort between Patient Transportation and other hospital departments.
• Preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 6 months of hire.
• Six months’ experience in a hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Escort ambulatory patients by wheelchair, stretcher or bed.
• Assist nursing staff and/or lift tech with moving and positioning of patients.
• Deliver stretchers, beds, cribs and wheelchairs; clean and sanitize transport equipment.
• Transports patient specimens and materials per infection control guidelines.
• Interacts with dispatch system and maintains Transporter Trip Log and records.
