Job summary

Highmark Health in Pittsburgh is seeking a patient care assistant to support the licensed nurses on the inpatient unit. You will perform basic nursing tasks, assist with activities of daily living, monitor patients, and document care in the electronic medical record.

The role emphasizes clinical asepsis, privacy, and adherence to hospital policies. Training is provided; candidates enrolled in ASN/BSN programs encouraged to apply, with CPR and background checks required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2 weeks of training required.
• Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform basic mathematics.
• Basic computer skills.
• Preferred acute care experience within the last 3 years.
• Currently enrolled in ASN or BSN program.
• Preference for those enrolled in associate or bachelor’s degree nursing programs with at least one clinical rotation.
• CPR certification and background clearances required.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care and documents activities (ADLs, vital signs, mobility, specimen collection, intake/output, meals, measurements).
• Participates in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives (bedside shift report, hourly rounds, safety protocols).
• Documents vital signs, weights, I/O, treatments; reports changes to nursing staff.
• Assists with unit activities such as stocking supplies and cleaning equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
