Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals seeks a Certified Nursing Assistant to perform direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, supporting a family‑centered and safe hospital environment.

You will assist patients with daily living, monitor vital signs, transport specimens, and help with basic rehab activities, with on‑the‑job training and Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assists in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort under RN guidance.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and bed-making.
• Safely transports patients to tests/procedures and assists with discharge.
• Transports specimens and items within the facility.
• Performs glucose monitoring, urine/stool testing and maintains logs per policy.
• Performs routine phlebotomy services in selected departments.
• Records vital signs and anthropometrics per policy.
• Provides respiratory support and uses oxygen equipment as needed.
• Encourages Spirometer use per protocol.
• Reports changes in patient condition to RN immediately.
• Prepares patients for examinations and assists with procedures.
• Assists with basic rehab/physical therapy activities.
