Job summary

Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, is seeking a Patient Access Representative to greet families, register patients, verify insurance, and coordinate scheduling to ensure care starts smoothly.

You will interact with patients, parents, physicians, and staff under supervision, perform accurate demographic collection, and help with billing and registration workflows while providing courteous, professional service.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years of related work experience required.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) preferred.
  • Ability to type at least 35 words per minute.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate accuracy of scheduling patients using the applicable scheduling system for the department.
  • Verify applicable charge codes corresponds with diagnostic codes.
  • Enter information into billing/registration system.
  • Complete online registration with parent/guardian by phone or in person.
  • Collect accurate demographic and insurance information.
  • Update systems as needed in accordance with department standards for registration accuracy.
  • Complete bedside registration for ED patients.
  • Reschedule appointment for no-shows or cancellations.
  • Schedule follow up appointments at checkout if applicable.
  • Greet patients and parents courteously.
  • Obtain required consents and ensure distribution of HIPAA-related materials.
  • Obtain copy of insurance card and photo ID for medical records.
  • Ensure copies of documents are received by CNMC HIM department.
  • Complete all documentation per department policy and procedure.
  • Respond to patient portal work lists (appointments, faxes, emails, etc.).
