Job summary

Qualifications

• Read, write and communicate in English at the level of a high school graduate.
• Type at the rate of 25 WPM as demonstrated by a timed test.
• Computer skills to perform the job functions in a satisfactory, accurate and productive manner.
• Successful passage of a Medical Terminology course or challenge exam.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Interview patient and/or representative to obtain required information for hospital registration.
• Coordinate registration activities with departments to support patient care.
• Initiate and maintain organized files related to orders, authorizations, and schedules.
• Contacts patients, insurers to obtain insurance information and surcharges for reimbursement.
• Verify benefits, obtain referrals and pre-certifications for maximum hospital reimbursement.
• Maintain knowledge of department policies to maximize reimbursement.
• Process admissions, discharges and transfers per procedures.
• Explain and process payments from patients, including co-pays and deductibles.
• Provide information on proxies, notices, and financial issues; refer to Financial Counselor.
• Provide service excellence to patients and co-workers.
• Attend departmental meetings as requested; perform other duties as assigned.
