Job summary

Charleston Area Medical Center in Memorial Hospital Charleston seeks a dedicated Patient Transporter to move patients safely across units and assist with patient care as needed.

You will triage transport requests, document absences, and maintain equipment while upholding compassionate communication with patients and staff. A high school diploma or GED is required; Basic Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Must have basic communication skills and courteous interaction with patients and staff.
• Demonstrate understanding of patient needs and safety.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients within the division and to admissions/discharge areas.
• Document patient absences from nursing units.
• Communicate politely with patients, staff and visitors.
• Maintain wheelchairs, carriers, oxygen tanks and other transport equipment.
• Assist patients entering hospital and physician offices.
• Maintain CPR certification and meet annual education requirements.
• Assist with transfers, lifting, and up-chair activities on units.
• Assist with orientation of new Patient Transporters.
• Follow policies including overtime and shift scheduling.
