Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to support bedside care. The role includes assisting with meals, walking, baths, and providing clean linens and gowns, while prioritizing patient safety and comfort.

As a PCA, you will support the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting changes. This position is part-time, with two 12-hour shifts per week, in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate patient care and development.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards for patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to withstand high levels of tension and stress and maintain concentration.
• Ability to organize tasks and manage a high workload within time limits.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities to the RN.
• Assist with meals ordering and encourage patient walking.
• Assist with baths and provide clean linens and gowns.
• Ensure patient safety using gait belts and bed/chair alarms, staying within arm's reach.
• Provide compassionate bedside care in a fast-paced environment.
• Support the bedside RN with clinical tasks as needed.
