As a Commuter Rail Technician Helper for the Utah Transit Authority, you will:
- Be responsible for preventive maintenance and inspections.
- Assist other skilled employees in performing running repairs and heavy repairs on all FrontRunner locomotives, cabs, and coach systems and subsystems, including electric over pneumatic doors, HVAC, couplers, passenger amenities, communications, air brakes, cab controls, electrical, and diesel engines.
Pay Rate: $26.52 - $30.52 per hour plus $1.00 to $1.50 shift differential depending on shift, if applicable. This is a four-year wage progression.
Experience and Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years’ mechanical work experience and/or 1 year of technical school/training.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance inspection and repair techniques.
- Understanding of pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic theories and principles.
- Ability to pass the standardized MET test and hands-on test administered by UTA.
- Proficiency in computer systems, including basic skills in Outlook.
- Ability to work safely on energized equipment up to 480 VAC and 600 VDC.
- Ability to acquire and maintain QMP certification and be certified as a Qualified Maintenance Person for Locomotives.
- Ability to operate shop equipment such as forklift, crane, track mobile, boom lift, and scissor lift.
- Successful completion of training programs and post-training qualification.
- Candidates must provide required tools on day one of hire, with additional tools to be acquired during probation.
- Effective communication skills, both orally and over radio.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a DOT Medical card.
- Valid Utah driver’s license with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years and no recent DUI violations.
- Physical ability to perform job duties, including walking long distances, lifting weights, working in various weather conditions, and working at heights above 16 feet.
- Consistent and predictable attendance is required.
