As a Commuter Rail Technician Helper for the Utah Transit Authority, you will:
- Be responsible for preventive maintenance and inspections.
- Assist other skilled employees in performing running and heavy repairs of all FrontRunner locomotives, cab, and coach systems and subsystems, including electric over pneumatic doors, HVAC, couplers, passenger amenities, communications, air brakes, cab controls, electrical, and diesel engines.
Pay Rate: $26.52 - $30.52 per hour plus $1.00 to $1.50 shift differential depending on shift. This is a four-year wage progression.
Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of mechanical work experience and/or 1 year of technical school/training.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance inspection and repair techniques.
- Understanding of pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic theory and principles.
- Able to pass the standardized MET test and hands-on test administered by UTA.
- Competence in computer systems and basic Outlook skills.
- Ability to safely work on energized equipment up to 480 VAC and 600 VDC.
- Ability to acquire and maintain QMP certification.
- Certification as a Qualified Maintenance Person for Locomotives per CFR Title 49 part 238, and operate forklift, crane, track mobile, boom lift, scissor lift, and other shop equipment.
- Successful completion of training and post-training qualification.
- Must provide required tools; initial list provided on hire, with additional tools to be acquired during probation.
- Effective communication skills, including radio protocol.
- Ability to acquire and maintain DOT Medical card.
- Valid Utah driver’s license with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years and no DUI violations in the last 10 years.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including walking long distances, lifting up to 50 lbs regularly, working on uneven surfaces, and working at heights above 16 feet.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
