As a Commuter Rail Technician Helper, your responsibilities will include:
- Performing preventive maintenance and inspections.
- Assisting skilled employees with running and heavy repair of FrontRunner locomotives, cabs, and coach systems, including electrical, pneumatic, HVAC, and other subsystems.
Pay Rate: $26.52 - $30.52 per hour plus $1.00 to $1.50 shift differential, depending on shift. This position offers a four-year wage progression.
Qualifications include:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of mechanical work experience or 1 year of technical training.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance, inspection, and repair techniques.
- Understanding of pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic systems.
- Ability to pass the MET and hands-on tests administered by UTA.
- Basic computer skills, including Outlook.
- Ability to work safely on energized equipment up to 480 VAC and 600 VDC.
- Certification as a Qualified Maintenance Person for Locomotives (per CFR Title 49 part 238) and ability to operate various shop equipment.
- Successful completion of training and qualification periods.
- Required tools provided on day one, with additional tools acquired during probation.
- Effective communication skills, including radio protocol.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical card and a valid Utah driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as walking long distances, lifting up to 50 lbs, working in various weather conditions, and working at heights.
- Consistent and predictable attendance is required.
