As a Commuter Rail Technician Helper for the Utah Transit Authority, you will:
- Be responsible for preventive maintenance and inspections.
- Assist other advanced-skilled employees in performing running repair and heavy repair of all FrontRunner locomotives, cabs, and coach systems and subsystems, including electric over pneumatic doors, HVAC, couplers, passenger amenities, communications, air brakes, cab controls, electrical, and diesel engines.
Pay Rate: $26.52 - $30.52 per hour plus $1.00 to $1.50 shift differential depending on shift, if applicable. This is a four-year wage progression.
Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years’ mechanical work experience and/or 1 year technical school/training.
- Knowledge and understanding of vehicle maintenance inspection and repair techniques.
- Knowledge of pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic theory and principles.
- Able to pass the standardized test (MET) and hands-on test administered by UTA.
- Demonstrate competence in computer systems and operations, including basic skills on Outlook.
- Able to safely work on energized equipment up to 480 VAC and 600 VDC.
- Be able to acquire and maintain QMP certification.
- Able to be certified as a Qualified Maintenance Person for Locomotive as defined in CFR Title 49 part 238, and operate forklift, crane, track mobile, boom lift, scissor lift, and other shop equipment.
- Successful completion of training program and post-training qualification period.
- Candidates must provide required tools (initial tool list on day of hire, with more extensive list to be acquired by the end of the probationary period).
- Able to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and customers, both orally and over radio.
- Able to use handheld radio according to proper protocol.
- Able to acquire and maintain DOT Medical card.
- Have a valid Utah driver’s license and a safe driving record (no more than 4 violations in the past 3 years, and no DUIs in the last 10 years).
- Able to perform physical requirements, including walking long distances, lifting up to 50 lbs regularly, working in various weather conditions, and working at heights above 16 feet.
- This job requires regular and predictable attendance.
