Albertina Kerr empowers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and other social barriers to lead self-determined lives and reach their full potential.

As the Community Support Specialist, you will provide daily social, educational, and recreational activities to participants in Kerr's programs. You will collaborate with team members to develop activities that support the development of program participants. Activities and support are provided in alignment with program goals and requirements.

Essential Duties
  1. Coordinate and conduct community-based learning and work experiences consistent with individual ability and choice, including volunteer experience, job shadowing, and other community opportunities that promote communication and work effectiveness.
  2. Assist staff in designing, planning, scheduling, and implementing community-based outings, learning activities, social/recreational activities, employment readiness classes, and other employment preparation activities.
  3. Help create social bonds between program participants and non-disabled community members.
  4. Assist individuals in gaining knowledge and skills for integrated competitive employment through various learning methods.
  5. Manage and de-escalate behavioral issues, including anger, conflict, anxiety, and behaviors addressed in ISP/IEP plans.
  6. Oversee documentation and communication regarding attendance, behavior, activities, and progress, and write concise reports as needed.
  7. Assist individuals with personal care and bathroom support needs.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • One year of experience instructing/supervising individuals with developmental disabilities or in a related field
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills and ability to relate to clients with diverse needs
  • Willingness to drive and transport participants in a 15-passenger van
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds
  • Ability to meet background check, reference, drug screening, and driving requirements
