Camden County College ( CCC ) is a leading two-year community college with campuses in Blackwood, Cherry Hill and Camden, New Jersey. The Community Service Officer provides essential safety, access control, dispatch, and campus information services while supporting Public Safety operations.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and one year of customer service or public safety experience. The position requires strong communication skills, ability to multitask, and Microsoft Office

  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the College Community, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions during stressful situations.
  • Proficiency, or ability to become proficient, in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Certification by the State of New Jersey in CPR and First Aid, or ability to obtain certification during probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and respond to inquiries from visitors, students, faculty, and staff in a friendly, helpful manner.
  • Ensure physical security by controlling access and maintaining visitor logs.
  • Enforce college standards related to loss prevention and safety procedures.
  • Conduct surveillance to detect policy violators and notify authorities.
  • Assist officers with routine inspections to maintain security and assets.
  • Render first aid to the level of training.
  • Participate in training of new hires on loss prevention.
  • Serve as back-up cashier and data entry for campus concierge desk.
  • Perform clerical duties for Public Safety operations.
  • Receive service calls and incident reports; record information for action.
  • Monitor emergency phones, CCTV, and dispatch personnel per procedures.
  • Report conditions affecting department operations to supervisors.
  • Maintain detailed records and daily logs.
  • Process identification and garage access cards.
  • Dispatch emergency response and keep officers informed during incidents.
  • Issue daily situational representations and emergency notifications.
  • Available to work outside regular hours, on-call during emergencies and inclement weather; overtime as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Public Safety.

Overview

  • Community Service Officers will report directly to the Executive Director of Public Safety or their designee. Community Service Officers are responsible for the Department’s communication activities including fixed and mobile radio operations, telephones, emergency telephones, the service call and complaint desk, emergency messenger service, identification cards, traffic violation reports, as well as acting as the College’s switchboard, information center, transfer/refer of calls, and providing directions and instructions as necessary, data input and update.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Welcome and respond to all inquiries from visitors, students, faculty, and staff and act in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Ensure physical security by controlling access of associates and visitors, along with maintaining visitor control logs.
  • Enforce Camden County College standards as they relate to loss prevention and safety procedures.
  • Conduct surveillance to detect, prevent and assist with the violators of policy and notifying appropriate authorities.
  • Assist Public Safety Officers with conducting routine inspections of their assigned area to maintain physical security and protection of assets.
  • Render first aid and other medical assistance to the level of your training.
  • Participate in the training of new hire associates in matters of loss prevention.
  • Serve as back-up cashier and data entry for Camden City campus concierge desk.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned pertaining to the Public Safety operation.
  • Receive service calls, complaints, and incident reports from students, faculty, staff, campus visitors, and the general public. Accurately record important information for further action.
  • Monitor emergency telephones, CCTV video, and dispatch personnel in accordance with outlined procedures.
  • Responsible for reporting any conditions and/or circumstances that may affect the operations of the department to supervisors.
  • Maintain and organize detailed and accurate records and daily logs in accordance with office filing procedures.
  • Processing identification cards and garage access cards
  • Dispatch the appropriate emergency response and other personnel to the location of the incident, provide support to officers as required: calls emergency personnel and other services as required, and keeps officers appraised of situation and circumstances on incident during their response.
  • Issues daily situational representations to administrative personnel as well as generates emergency notifications for the College’s emergency management team and predesignated stakeholders.
  • Must be available to work outside of regular hours on an on-call basis during emergencies and periods of inclement weather; and work overtime when required to complete time critical assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Public Safety and/or their designee.
