Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is seeking a dedicated Lifeguard to ensure a safe swimming environment and uphold pool safety standards at the Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA.

The role requires vigilance, adherence to emergency procedures, and commitment to the YMCA’s safety policies. As a lifeguard, you will monitor the pool area, perform routine safety checks, and assist with documentation and reporting as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 15
• Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration
• Current Lifeguard Certification
• Additional trainings as assigned within first week of work
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards

Responsibilities

• Support the lifeguard in maintaining active surveillance of the pool area.
• Know and review all emergency procedures and respond to emergencies immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required.
• Know, understand, and consistently support safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
• Remain calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
• Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
• Support equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
• Perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
