Great River Regional Library is seeking a Library Assistant to provide friendly, welcoming service to patrons and help them use library resources. The role includes assisting with borrowing, registrations, payments, and technology support, while maintaining a safe, inclusive, and confidential environment.

The successful candidate will handle diverse tasks, assist with displays and programs, and adapt to changing priorities while upholding high service standards.

Qualifications

• 1 year of post secondary education or equivalent.
• Library or customer service experience.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including building relationships across cultures.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge and ability to help others with computers and technology devices.
• Knowledge of research and information gathering techniques.
• Ability to respond to emergencies and situations that may be stressful or difficult.

Responsibilities

• Help patrons borrow library materials.
• Register patrons for library cards.
• Take payments from patrons.
• Help patrons find the library resources they need.
• Provide trusted and reliable information to patrons.
• Create displays and conduct programs that reach diverse patron interests.
• Keep library materials available and refreshed for patron use.
• Ensure the library is safe and welcoming by managing the public areas.
• Assist the public in the use of library computers, printers and with other technology needs.
• Maintain the confidentiality of patron information.
