Job summary

City of Irving's library seeks a customer service oriented library assistant to provide excellent service to visitors and support staff with programming and collection activities.

Responsibilities include helping patrons with checkouts and cards, guiding online databases and catalogs, offering basic tech support, training volunteers, and assisting with outreach and reader’s advisory. Evening and weekend hours apply.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent and two years of relevant experience required.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Assist library visitors with checking out and registering for library cards.
• Advise and assist with library resources such as online databases and digital material, catalog and other resources.
• Provide computer technical assistance and troubleshoot issues with public computers, printers and other equipment.
• Train staff members and volunteers; update publications and other library material.
• Explain library policies to ensure a positive and safe library experience.
• Plan and implement programs and teach classes; participate in outreach activities; support reader’s advisory services; process payments and cash reports.
