Job summary

Roof Above in Charlotte, NC seeks a program nurse to work with a multi-disciplinary team addressing health needs of residents in a housing-first setting. You will educate about medications, coordinate care with partners, and support housing stability.

This role emphasizes trauma-informed, harm-reduction approaches and collaboration with case managers, staff, and community partners to ensure safe, dignified care for residents.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree
• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current licensure in the State of North Carolina as a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse.
• Experience working with chronically homeless individuals strongly preferred.
• Experience working with individuals with a history of mental illness and substance use preferred.
• Knowledge of, and commitment to, harm reduction and Housing First principles.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Computer proficiency and familiarity with electronic documentation.
• Superb collaborative skills and demonstrated success working in a high-needs environment.
• Contribute to a program culture that values flexibility, creativity, and continuous learning.
• Become certified in Homeless Management and Information Services database to enter services and view records, as needed. (Certification will be provided).

Responsibilities

• Provide tenants with guidance and support around medical and behavioral health-related issues in a residential, non-clinical environment.
• Reinforces education and counseling to clients regarding health needs, chronic disease management, medications, side effects, and contraindications.
• Perform administrative and clinical tasks including documentation, coordinating appointments, obtaining vital signs, simple wound care, and supporting tenants in self-administering medications.
• Exercise clinical judgment in adapting standard protocols to the PSH environment within policy.
• Work with non-clinical staff and program staff to align health interventions with housing goals.
• Utilize trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and harm-reduction approaches with residents.
