The City of Avenal is seeking a Community Activities Leader Assistant to help plan and implement various community programs. This role involves working with youth and adults, ensuring activities run smoothly, and maintaining communication with staff and participants. Candidates should have strong leadership skills, computer proficiency, and experience with children. A valid California Driver's License and current First Aid/CPR certifications are required.
SALARY RANGE: A (4 - 6 hrs. daily - 4 days per week)
Required to work a varied schedule of hours, including weekends and holidays. Flexibility in scheduling is required.
REPORTS TO: Community Activities Supervisor
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Community Activities Supervisor and the Senior Community Activities Leader to plan, organize, and implement daily, weekly, monthly, and annual activities for all age groups and the community as a whole through the City’s Community Activities Program.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Assist the Senior Community Activities Leader with:
-“Rec on Wheels” Mobile Community Activities Program
-Teen Escape Program
-Summer Program
-Other Community Activities Programs
Ensure that the clean-up of the program site at the close of each day is complete whether it be from a specific program or a community activity. This entails putting away equipment and supplies and including other janitorial responsibilities. (Example of equipment: tables, chairs, sports equipment, sports mats, etc.)
Meet weekly with the Community Activities Staff to discuss programs, updates of events, problems, and resolutions, travel, sports events, etc. in order to keep consistent communication between affected departments and City Hall.
Communicate consistently, honestly and professionally with supervisors, parents, participants, school representatives, staff members and others in a positive and friendly manner at all times.
Design quality brochures, flyers and other advertising material for Community Activities/community programs and events.
Utilize computer to draft reports, memos, letters, and other related items as directed by supervisor.
The Community Activities Leader Assistant position is a working and hands-on position.
Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability To:
Work in a leadership role with youth and adults.
Work harmoniously with fellow employees and the general public.
Be dependable and handle responsibility maturely.
Able to lift at least 25 lbs.
Have a sincere interest in and a solid understanding of Community Activities and community activities and all that it entails.

Experience:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must possess strong computer skills with emphasis on report writing, brochure design and other advertising material.
Must possess good writing and speaking skills.
Must have experience working with children.
Education:
High School education or equivalent.
Certification:
Current certifications in First Aid and CPR are required. Must obtain within 60 days of hire.
Must possess a valid California Drivers’ License at all times.
